The Gate Residency, London, 2012
About
In 2012 Forest Fringe were invited to curate a two-week residency at the Gate Theatre in Notting Hill. Each week was headlined and curated by a different Forest Fringe artist, who invited others to join them on the bill each night.
The first week was curated by Chris Thorpe, who read a different piece of writing each night, including some written especially for the event. Alongside this he invited artists to join him including Alex Kelly (Third Angel), Yusra Warsama, Chris Goode, Jess Latowicki, Hannah Jane Walker, Tom Penn, Ira Brand and Charlotte Jarvis, alongside the first ever version of the now-legendary Torycore, a death-metal re-imagining of tory propaganda featuring Chris Thorpe, Lucy Ellinson and Steve Lawson.
The second week was headlined by choreographer Dan Canham, who each night presented his short solo dance 30 Cecil Street. Alongside this he hosted work by artists including Emma Bennett, Sam Halmarack, Will Hanke, Christina Gangos, Little Bulb, Tassos Stevens, Augusto Corrieri and Deborah Pearson.
