Made In China
Biography
Made In China make theatre that playfully explores the paradoxes of modern identity, crossing the borders between playwriting and performance art. Their work is about little absurdities and big issues that come from living and looking out at the world from the waning west. It’s about buying too much and knowing lots but doing little. Feeling powerless yet being from a so-called democratic superpower. Their performances are a careful blend of dark humour, deadpan dialogue and punishing physical tasks. They invite their audience to relax and enjoy then put difficult questions to them. They aim to excite and unsettle in equal measure.
Made In China formed in 2009. They have developed and performed their work across the UK and beyond, at venues including: National Theatre, Bristol Old Vic, Royal Exchange Theatre, Traverse Theatre, Forest Fringe, Battersea Arts Centre, La MaMa, and Paradiso Amsterdam. Made In China was a National Theatre Studio affiliate company 2010-12 and an Arches Brick Award nominee 2013.
